Never Giving Up: The Inspiring Story of Daphne Avalos
Daphne Avalos is a true success story of perseverance and determination in earning her diploma. She is the daughter of Angelica Hernandez and Luis Avalos and has two younger brothers, Luis and Ernesto, who are currently in high school. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Daphne put her own education on hold to ensure her brothers stayed connected to school. With her parents working full-time, she took on the responsibility of helping her brothers attend their virtual classes and stay on track academically. Although this sacrifice delayed her own progress, Daphne never lost sight of the importance of completing her education. Her persistence paid off when she proudly graduated this past spring from Cedar Street, surrounded by her supportive family.
Earning her diploma has been one of the most meaningful accomplishments of her life. It represents not only academic success but also her resilience through challenging times. Daphne shared that some of the strategies that helped her stay motivated included waking up early each morning and getting straight to work on her classes. Starting her day with focus allowed her to stay consistent and productive. She also made sure to take short breaks to recharge and prevent burnout. One of the biggest challenges she faced was maintaining her motivation. There were moments when she felt tired or discouraged, but she reminded herself how close she was to the finish line and how much effort she had already invested.
Her family, especially her parents, played a major role in keeping her inspired. Their encouragement reminded her of why she began this journey—to make them proud and to create a better future for herself. Looking back, Daphne said she would have reached out to her teachers for help sooner. Her advice to others is simple: keep going and never give up. Education is a powerful tool that can open countless doors. Now that she has earned her diploma, Daphne plans to continue her education and pursue even greater goals.
