Celebrating Multilingual Excellence: The Michigan Seal of Biliteracy
In today’s interconnected world, the ability to communicate in more than one language is not just an advantage – it’s a powerful asset. The Michigan Seal of Biliteracy recognizes high school students who have demonstrated proficiency in English and at least one additional language. This prestigious distinction celebrates students’ linguistic skills while opening doors to future academic and career opportunities.
What Is the Michigan Seal of Biliteracy?
The Michigan Seal of Biliteracy is an official recognition awarded to graduating high school students who have achieved a high level of proficiency in multiple languages. Students must demonstrate their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through approved assessments. Once earned, the Seal is noted on a student’s official high school transcript, signaling to colleges and employers that the student is prepared to thrive in a global society.
Why It Matters
Earning the Seal of Biliteracy offers numerous benefits. It highlights a student’s dedication to language learning and cultural understanding, strengthens college applications, and can even lead to college credit or advanced placement in language courses. Beyond academics, bilingualism enhances cognitive skills, broadens career opportunities, and fosters deeper connections in diverse communities.
