A Heartwarming Gift for Van Buren County’s Multilingual Learners
A wave of excitement swept through Van Buren County this week as students received a meaningful surprise—winter weather totes filled with warm essentials—all thanks to MASA Impact, a new initiative from the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA) dedicated to directly supporting school communities across the state.
The Van Buren Intermediate School District (VBISD) was selected as the newest MASA Impact recipient, and the results of this partnership were felt immediately. Together, VBISD and MASA provided approximately 300 Winter Warmth Totes to multilingual and migrant families throughout the county.
Each tote was carefully assembled with thoughtful winter essentials, including hats, gloves, socks, chapstick, and skin cream—items that help students stay warm and comfortable during Michigan’s harsh winter months. The MASA team—joined by VBISD Superintendent Dave Manson, ISD staff, Board of Education members, and strategic partners such as Trane—spent the day unpacking and delivering the totes to schools across the district.
Students at Bloomingdale Elementary and Pullman Elementary were among those who received the totes, and the excitement on their faces said it all. Children eagerly explored their bags, proudly trying on their new winter gear and sharing the moment with classmates and staff. The joy and gratitude throughout the buildings made the delivery day truly special.
The MASA Impact initiative grew from MASA staff’s commitment to meaningful volunteerism and hands-on support for districts. VBISD is proud to be this year’s recipient and deeply grateful for the warmth—both literal and inspirational—this partnership is bringing to families across the community.
This delivery day was more than just a distribution of winter gear; it was a powerful demonstration of care, community, and collaboration that will continue to make a positive difference for students and families in Van Buren County.
